THIS PAGE IS ABOUT ARMATURES

There are two basic types of current collectors

  • Commutator
  • Slipring

    Commutator

There are mainly two types of commutators

One is made up of a number of copper segments insulated from each other forming a cylinder where the brushes run on the o/d of the commutator.

The other type is a pancake type made up with a number of copper segments insulated from each other to form a flat round surface similar to a cdrom where the brushes run on the flat face of the copper segments.

The pancake types are generally used where space is at a premium and you require a motor with a short length such as often used on automobile starter motors.

    Slipring

There are also basically two types of slipring assemblies.

The first consists of a number of rings fitted to a cylinderical insulated body where the brushes run on the o/d of the ring.

The other is a pancake shaped similar to a cdrom where the metal rings are inbedded into the end face of the body and the brushes run on the flat surface of the rings.

If you have any problems in any of these areas please goto our Questionnaire and fill in the details of the problem and submit it to us.
