Main Parts used to make an Electric Motors




Frame This contains all the motors parts
Stator This fits inside the Frame. It holds the field windings.
Rotor This holds the windings and is the part that turns
Armature This also holds windings and turns
Sliprings This is fitted to the end of the rotor and is connected to the coils in the Stator
Commutator This is fitted to the end of the Armature and is connected to the coils in the armature
Brush Holders These are fitted above the Sliprings or Armature and conduct the current to the Carbon Brushes
Carbon Brush These are fitted inside the brush boxes and conduct the current to the Armature or Sliupring
Leads These conduct the current to the motor
Bearings These are fitted to the end of the frame and carry the Rotor or Armature

Note the carbon brushes are stationary and conduct the current to the moving parts which are the Armature or the Rotor.
